Artist's Description

Patzcuaro, a Spanish colonial city in the state of Michoacan, has long been my favorite place in Mexico. Many of its buildings date to the 16th and 17th centuries. Most of the streets in the colonial core are paved with cobblestones of the native basalt, which was also used to construct many of its churches and public buildings, like the one depicted here. It has a charm found only a few places in modern Mexico so it's a wonderful city to wander around in. I seriously thought about retiring there.
