Description
This Brittle Bush, growing out of a crack in a large rock, caught my eye while hiking in Palm Canyon (south of Palm Springs, CA) several years ago. I did a quick sketch, took a couple of photos, and later turned it into an award-winning watercolor, which sold immediately. I've always liked the image so I decided to do it in oil...from a 3" x 5" photo of the original painting. There are some differences! This particular plant probably hadn't had any rain for a couple of years at that point. There are many more like it today as a result of California's extreme drought. For many of them, there is no 'next year.'
