Long a favorite area to walk in the south end of Palm Springs, CA, the Ozwit Canyon alluvial fan offers hikers and walkers a marvelous desert experience just a couple of miles from the city center. Amidst huge water-worn boulders one can find nearly every species of plant, bird, reptile, and mammal that is native to this corner of the Colorado Desert. But it has been under threat of development for years. Recently a group of conservation organizations have pooled their resources to purchase and protect it. It's been a long, hard fight.

Thank you, Anthony. Sometimes I need to take a break from my usual watercolor routine, and oils are kind of satisfying. I just wish they didn't take so long to dry... This one has a special significance, however. We buried some of our favorite dog's ashes near these barrel cacti about 15 years ago. She was 17, and the best, smartest dog we've ever known. So, for us, this spot is her memorial.
