Description
On a plein air outing to the Palm Springs Air Museum recently, I was searching for a place to set up when I noticed a group of volunteers working on restoration of an old F-102 that had been given to the museum for its collection. I shot several minutes of video and went on my way. An hour or so later I noticed that they were still working so I shot more video. This painting is composed from four or five frame grabs from those videos. The thing that made the project interesting for me was the guy with the broom...had to get him into the painting.

This is one of a small series of paintings I call, "Old Guys Standing Around." As an old guy who seems to stand around a lot, I have a particular connection with these other guys, who are just doin' their thing. I frequently think of John Milton's observation that "Those also serve who only stand and wait;" although it's not always obvious who is being served and whether the wait is worthwhile...
