Flies Off the Wall
Artist
John Ressler
Medium
Painting - Watermedia On Paper
Description
Originally entitled "I Don't Do Flowers," this piece was done for the local watercolor society's "Summer Challenge"--which was to paint flowers. Although nearly all watercolorists paint flowers, I avoid them. So, I decided to have a little fun with the competition. If I need flowers in a painting to help the composition or fill some space, okay; but they'll never be the focus of the composition. The flycatching parts of a Venus Fly-trap are modified leaves, not flowers.
"Flies Off the Wall" is painted with watercolor, casein, and acrylic paints on Yupo, an art material derived from Teflon. While it creates some interesting graphic effects, it's a tough surface to paint on!
