Looking through some old photos one day recently, I found a black-and-white image taken of me long ago when I was living the Beat life in Ocean Beach, CA--a center of Beat poetry, art, and music--and working at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. It struck me as funny and worth having some fun with. The nice thing about self-portraits is that if the nose isn't quite right, one has only oneself to blame...and it doesn't really matter anyway.
